Recap

That was a hard watch.

Aberdeen’s winning run came to a spectacular halt at the hands of Motherwell, who went 3-0 up in the first half.

Derek McInnes made three changes to the side that beat Viking FK in the Europa League second round qualifier on Thursday.

Scott McKenna was absent, after Nottingham Forest made an offer for the Dons defender. Tommie Hoban and Dylan McGeouch were also dropped to the bench.

In their place came, Funso Ojo, Niall McGinn and Ash Taylor.

And the match couldn’t have got off to a worse start, with Marley Watkins handling in the penalty box in the fourth minute, gifting Motherwell a spot kick which was converted by Mark O’Hara.

Things just went from bad to worse five minutes later we went two behind, Joe Lewis making an uncharacteristic hash of his clearance, kicking the ball to Chris Long, and the Motherwell striker raced forward to beat Joe to put Motherwell 2-0 up.

And it was all over in the 22nd minute, when the Dons conceded again from a corner, with Bevis Mugabi rose unchallenged to head Liam Polworth’s corner into the net, despite Joe getting a hand to the ball he was unable to keep it out.

Marley Watkins was denied in the 43rd minute after hitting the woodwork.

A first half to forget for the Dons.

Derek McInnes made a triple change at the start of the second half, with Ash Taylor, Funso Ojo and Niall McGinn all subbed.

Tommie Hoban, Shay Logan and Ryan Edmondson coming on in their place.

Aberdeen managed to tame Motherwell through the second half, but nothing of note that would change the scoreline.

A disappointing end to our winning run as we look ahead to our UEFA Europa League challenge against Sporting CP in Lisbon on Thursday.
