Recap
The Dons started 2021 with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Dundee Utd at Pittodrie.
Derek McInnes made two changes to the side that beat St Johnstone on Boxing Day.
Sam Cosgrove dropped to be bench, alongside Dean Campbell. Niall McGinn started and Ross McCrorie returned from his one-game suspension.
Scott Wright was also back in the squad after returning from his hernia surgery, making it to the bench.
Ahead of the match starting, respects were made to former Aberdeen player Chic McLelland and former Dundee Utd manager Jim McLean who passed away recently.
We dominated possession in the first half, but lacked anything in the final third.
Ryan Hedges had a couple of efforts in the first half, and a penalty claim denied by Kevin Clancy after going down under challenge from Mark Connolly.
In the final minutes of the first half, a Hedges inswinging corner was picked up by Andy Considine, but Andy’s header went over.
After the break, Lawrence Shankland went close for Utd, firing a low drive towards goal, by Considine was on hand to block the shot.
Jonny Hayes delivered a cross deep into the box for Ross McCrorie to pick up in the 71st minute, but his header went wide of goal.
Nicky Clark had an opportunity for the opposition after his 80th minute volley was saved by Joe Lewis.
And in the final minute of the ninety, Lawrence Shankland had another effort at goal, but Joe tipped the effort wide.
Unfortunately, our attacking problem was at the expense of losing the momentum of moving ahead of Hibs, who lost 3-0 against Livingston.
We can have all the possession we like, but we can’t seem to do anything with it.
