Recap

The Dons took all three points in a hard-fought win at the Tony Macaroni Arena against Livingston on a sun-kissed Saturday.

Derek McInnes is having a bit of an injury nightmare at the moment, with no less than six players out injured, namely – Craig Bryson, Funso Ojo, Scott Wright, Stephen Gleeson, Scott McKenna and Ash Taylor.

He made three changes to the starting line-up.  Sam Cosgrove was dropped to the bench with Curtis Main starting.  Dean Campbell started, as did Jon Gallagher.

It was Livingston that were on the front foot in the early stages of the game, with Scott Robinson getting a chance in the 18th minute and just moments later Jack McMillan having a shot that flew over the bar.

Aberdeen went ahead thanks to Andrew Considine in the 28th minute from a corner kick from the left which he converted with a low finish from six yards.

Livingston nearly equalised just before half-time when Chris Erskine broke into the penalty area, he was one-on-one with Joe Lewis, but he mistimed the shot a put the ball clear in the air.

Livingston came out of the traps in the second half and put on the pressure to happen for a good chunk of the second half and once again the Dons started a second half with a lack of intent which frustrated the travelling support.  It was dire to watch.

With Livingston pushing for a win they had another couple of changes to take the game.  In the 57th minute, Steven Lawless picked up a ball from the right but his shot was saved by Joe Liews.

In the 73rd minute, Jon Guthrie hit a half volley that crashed off the underside of the crossbar before bouncing out of the next – a very close shave indeed.

It took to the 87th minute for Aberdeen to have any chance, with Lewis Ferguson driving his 20 yarder inches over the bar.

But into injury time, Aberdeen were given and opportunity to seal the game, after Nicky Devlin brought down Sam Cosgrove in the box.  He took the resultant spot kick to give the Dons a 2-0 win and put us into third in the Scottish Premiership.

Derek McInnes said: “It wasn’t pretty. We knew we weren’t going to get it all our own way, but we’ve found a way to win. It was a tough watch.

“We can expect more in certain games, but what I couldn’t get any more of today was the willingness of the players to get the three points.”
