Recap
It was definitely a game of two halves at Tynecastle this afternoon, with an indifferent first half showing from the Dons, in most part missing in action as Hearts went 2-0 up in the first half with a Djoum headed opener and a Steven Naismith soft penalty.
Aberdeen had double change at half-time which introduced Niall McGinn and Scott Wright at the expense of Sam Cosgrove and Dominic Ball. That seemed to liven things up a bit and it wasn’t long before the Dons were back in the game.
Gary Mackay-Steven scored from the penalty spot early in the second half after Niall McGinn was brought down by Godingo in the box, GMS finding the corner of the net from the spot.
Hearts won their second penalty after Logan penalised Sean Clare in the box, earning him the Dons’ sixth yellow card of the afternoon. Luckily for the Dons, Joe Lewis dived right and saved Steven Naismith’s resulting penalty.
And the Dons looked close to scoring an equaliser – GMS ran onto a loose ball from his own corner and it looked as if he found the net only for Zlamal turning the low-cross round the back of the post.
The Dons go into the League Cup Semi-Final 10 points behind Hearts in seventh place. The Red Army will be looking for a much more polished performance at Hampden to have any hope of getting a League Cup Final spot.
