Viaplay Departs, Premier Sports Returns

Viaplay have confirmed today that the sale of its UK sports channel business to Premier Sports has been finalised with Viaplay subscribers being transferred across to Premier Sports within the next few days.

The first Scottish match on Premier Sports will be our Scottish Cup Semi Final against Celtic at Hampden on Saturday 20 April 2024.

• Premier Sports will officially take over the Viaplay sports channels on 4 April 2024.
• All the Viaplay sports channels will be rebranded on Sky, Virgin Media and Prime Video channels on 9 April 2024 to Premier Sports.
• If you subscribed to Viaplay’s film and series channels, these will finish on 21 May 2024.
• All previous and existing Viaplay Total sports customers will be moved to Premier Sports.
• Premier Sports will inherit all of Viaplay UK’s current sporting rights until they expire.

Viaplay acquired Premier Sports in 2022, taking on the pay-TV broadcaster’s sports rights contracts and channels as part of its expansion into the UK market in a £30m deal.  But after 18 months and a disastrous attempt to expand internationally, the Nordic broadcaster has scaled back their ambitions.
