Scottish Cup Matchday – Raith Rovers
It wasn’t pretty, but it was job done at Pittodrie this weekend.
On the latest AFC DONScast, we review Aberdeen’s 1-0 victory over Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup, where Jack Milne’s first-ever goal was enough to secure our spot in the next round. While the performance was “workmanlike” and tense at times, the Red Army will take the win.
The squad is seeing significant changes this January. We discuss the arrival of midfielder Lyall Cameron on loan from Rangers, with the 23-year-old looking to reignite his campaign in the North East. However, it’s goodbye to Vicente Besuijen, who returns to the Netherlands with FC Emmen, and Ester Sokler, who has completed a permanent move to Serbia. We also look at the rumours surrounding Nicolas Milanovic and a potential exit for Kusini Yengi to Japan.
Who will replace Jimmy Thelin? Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel is narrowing down the shortlist. We analyse the reports linking German coaches Markus Gisdol and Robert Klaus to the role, while noting that Stephen Robinson remains a strong domestic contender.
It was a mixed weekend elsewhere. The U18s produced a stunning comeback from 1-0 down to beat Dundee in the Youth Cup , but there was heartbreak for Aberdeen Women, who were knocked out of the Cup by Montrose via a 90th-minute winner, despite a spectacular “Olimpico” goal from Abi Tobin.
Plus we have the Scottish Cup 5th Round Draw.
