Recap
Sam Cosgrove and Shay Logan earned the Dons a win against Peterhead in their pre-season friendly this evening (3 July 2019) at Balmoor.
The Dons started with three of their seven summer signings – with Ash Taylor, Greg Leigh and Ryan Hedges starting from the off.
James Wilson who just signed for the Dons earlier in the day was on the bench with Jon Gallagher whilst Curtis Main was out with a thigh strain.
Craig Bryson continues his recovery from the ankle ligament injury and may now look doubtful for our Europa League opener against RoPS Rovaniemi next Thursday at Pittodrie.
It didn’t take long for Aberdeen to threaten the home side’s goal after after a cross from Hedges forced a save from Greg Fleming.
Around the half-hour mark, Scott Wright looked on form, stepping past two challenge he put a powerful shot over goal.
He was in action again in the 36th minute when he put a pass to Sam Cosgrove, his resultant shot went into the net to put the Dons ahead.
It was a Cosgrove / Wright partnership that was involved moments later with the shot from Wright saved by Fleming, the rebound fell to Cosgrove but he put the shot straight to the keeper.
Into the second half, and Cosgrove continued where he left off, continuing his threat in front of goal, when in the 53rd minute he picked up a ball from Greg Leigh and shot low towards the near post, with Fleming managing to block the shot.
Jon Gallagher had a shot on goal in the 67th minute, but it was Shay Logan the “Fox in the Box” . who fired in a 10-yarder in the 70th minute to put the Dons two up.
The final chance fell to Lewis Ferguson who rattled the crossbar from a free kick.
A comfortable run-out for the Dons, and the new signings look promising.
Next up… a Dons XI face Elgin City tomorrow night at Borough Briggs.
