Recap

It was a game with a number of talking points, however our game management cost us once again for a match that we should have won.

Prior to our match against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, there was a build up to #Andy500, our long serving defender captained the side today to honour his 500th appearance for Aberdeen.

Aberdeen made one change to the side that defeated Ross County 3-1.

Curtis Main returned to the first eleven.  Craig Bryson was dropped to the bench.

Shay Logan had the opening chance for the Dons in the 11th minute, picking up a Niall McGinn cross at the edge of the penalty area which he powered an 18-yard drive which was saved by Zander Clark.

Sam Cosgrove was on the scoreline again, scoring the opener in the 21st minute by firing a 25 yard strike below Clark for his 17th goal of the season.

Referring controversy wasn’t far away after that.  Aberdeen should have been awarded a penalty moments later when Ryan Hedges crossed into the box towards Curtis Main.  Wallace Duffy raised his hand and palmed the ball from Main’s head.

The clueless Clancy never awarded the stonewaller.

Aberdeen continued to put on the pressure and in the 40th minute Curtis Main shot wide from a Cosgrove cross and put the shot wide.

Into the second half and Cosgrove was close again picking up a McGinn cross from the left, but his header went wide.

St Johnstone qualised in the 71st minute went through our defence with ease and Matty Kennedy play a one-two with Chris Kane to fire the shot beyond Joe Lewis.

After that St Johnstone went through a moment of madness, with two red cards.

St Johnstone were reduced to 10 men when Murray Davidson was red carded for a awful challenge on Craig Bryson after catching him on the side of this right foot.  It wasn’t a nice challenge.

Callum Hendry also saw red for a harsh challenge on Lewis Ferguson from behind.

Aberdeen continued to try and push from the winner.  A long range shot from Lewis Ferguson was saved by Clark in the 89th minute and a 30-yard free kick from Niall McGinn was saved in injury time.

Logan blasted a loose ball wide in the final moments of the game.

Aberdeen failed to regain the composure needed to punish nine-man St Johnstone, and frustratingly come away with a draw.
