St Mirren were swept aside in Aberdeen’s opening round of the Scottish League Cup in front of a 9,011 crowd at Pittodrie.
A Gary Mackay-Steven double and goals from captain, Graeme Shinnie and Stevie May secured an emphatic win against St Mirren.
Ahead of the game starting however, Niall McGinn pulled up with an injury forcing Derek McInnes into a change for his line-up with Frank Ross taking the place of McGinn and Connor McLennan taking the place of Ross on the bench.
And it all went Aberdeen’s way – when Gary Mackay-Steven in the 16th minute volleyed Ferguson’s cross past Craig Samson from 12 yards.
That was quickly followed in the 20th minute with another passing move, with Mackay-Steven crossing to Graeme Shinnie to slot our second in.
The impressive Scott Wright didn’t take the selfish route for our third goal, after intercepting a Samson pass before rounding the keeper and passing to Stevie May who scored his first goal of the season.
Into the second half, and the misery continued for St Mirren, after Gary Mackay-Steven slotted home his second of the day and our fourth of the game from the penalty spot after being tripped up by Hayden Coulson in the box.
All-in-all an impressive display from the Dons which we can build on in the rest of the campaign.
