Cup Progression, Dundee Defeat & Manager Updates
Welcome back to the AFC DONScast! Graeme is here to break down a massive, turbulent week for Aberdeen FC.
A Week of Contrasts at Pittodrie
We kick things off with the Scottish Cup Fifth Round clash under the lights at Pittodrie. Aberdeen booked their ticket to the Quarter-Finals after a fiery 2-0 victory against Motherwell. Absolute chaos erupted when Motherwell saw a straight red just two minutes in, and Kevin Nisbet curled the resulting free-kick beautifully past the keeper. Graeme Shinnie eventually put the game to bed with a clinical strike in the 64th minute, keeping our trophy defense alive. The Dons march on to the final eight and will face Dunfermline at East End Park on Saturday, March 7th.
Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t carry over into the league. Despite starting fast against Dundee with a 13th-minute goal from Toyosi Olusanya, disaster struck with a Liam Morrison red card and a Dundee penalty. Down to ten men, the Dons showed incredible fight, highlighted by another brilliant Nisbet free-kick, but ultimately suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat. This marked our first home league defeat to Dundee in over twenty years, leaving the fans exhausted and demanding a summer rebuild.
