Aberdeen v Motherwell

Dons Defenders On Target In Win Against Steelmen

The Dons defenders were on target to take the win against Motherwell at Pittodrie this afternoon.

A first half opener from Tommie Hoban and a second from Andy Considine was enough to secure the points for Aberdeen as we move up to third in the Scottish Premiership.

Derek McInnes will be glad of the win, after the pressure was piled on following the 4-1 loss against Ross County last week, having gone on a three game winless run.

There were two changes to the side that lost to County.  Ross McCrorie was out with an ankle injury and Curtis Main was dropped to the bench.

Ryan Hedges returned from his one-match suspension and Funso Ojo also started.

Jonny Hayes and Ash Taylor both recovered from their injuries they suffered at Ross County.

Ryan Hedges was first up for an effort at goal for the Dons.  His move down the right saw his left-footed drive go wide in the thirteenth minute.

A couple of minutes later, Tommie Hoban opened the scoring, picking up a cross to the back post from Matty Kennedy, to head the ball home in the top corner.

Shortly after, Ryan had another effort go wide after a one-two with Wright

Tony Watt had his effort parried away by Joe Lewis and luckily Sherwin Seedorf had his effort blocked by Funso Ojo on the rebound.

Funso reverted to type though shortly after.  His crossfield pass was intercepted by Tony Watt and he charged at goal, his shot  hit the crossbar and into the hands of Joe Lewis/

Liam Polworth saw was booked after kicking out at Scott Wright.  Scott had fouled Polworth just beforehand.  Both he, Polworth and Funso Ojo who joined in, in the handbags,  were booked.

Liam’s time on the pitch was short lived after the break – he was shown a straight red for comments he made to referee Craig Napier after injuring his shoulder in a midfield  clash.

Aberdeen kept up the pressure.  Lewis Ferguson came close with a back post header and Ash Taylor had his goal ruled out for a push in the box.

The second goal came courtesy of a well played short effort from Matty Kennedy to Hedges who laid the ball off to Lewis Ferguson, his effort was blocked but the ball was picked up by Andrew Considine who slotted it in from close range.

As the game came to an end we made a triple substitution which saw the first team debut of Miko Virtanen, who came on for Matty Kennedy in the 87th minute.

A slightly more relaxed lockdown Saturday for the Dandies as we look ahead to our midweek match against St Johnstone.
