The Red Shed – Aberdeen v Dumbarton
New chairman, Dave Cormack gave a commitment that he would start trialling initiatives that would improve the atmosphere at Pittodrie, and the first of these will take place at our Scottish Cup match against Dumbarton on Saturday 18 January 2020.
For this match the Merkland Stand will be trialled as a traditional ‘home end’ with unallocated seating. Over 1,900 tickets for The Red Shed are already sold.
The trial is the first of many initiatives planned to improve the matchday experience at Pittodrie as AFC’s Chairman Dave Cormack explains, “I’ve recently stated that we want to improve the matchday experience for supporters. A critical part of this initiative is encouraging those who actively want to get behind the team vocally.
“While there are limitations at Pittodrie, we can do much more, especially by working together with our fans. We see this as a journey, starting out at the Dumbarton game and building all the way through to our move to the new stadium where we will have safe standing.
“After speaking with other clubs and working closely with supporters who have made a success of this elsewhere, I am really excited about what can be achieved at Pittodrie and can’t wait for us to get going.”
“We want the Merkland Stand to have an away atmosphere at home, this is an opportunity for all supporters to get together as they do at away matches and Stand Free!”
Tickets for this section are available to book online now at afc.co.uk/eTickets, by calling 01224 63 1903 or visiting the Pittodrie Ticket Office.
Whilst seat details will be published on each ticket, this section will be for unallocated seating.
Initially the central sections will be available for purchase and as demand grows further sections will be opened.
Merkland Stand Season Ticket holders who do not wish to enjoy the game in the active area can email ticketoffice@afc.co.uk with their stand and block preference and tickets required and we will arrange these following the release of any unpurchased season seats.
Part 2… for this game we were expecting around 7,000. Let’s see if we can get at least 10,000, remembering that the income is split with our friends from Dumbarton, and it would be great to see them benefit too!
