Aberdeen v Hibernian

Sam Cosgrove Scores Late Equaliser For 9-Man Dons

Two red cards, and yet another feckless performance from the Dons against Hibs this afternoon at Pittodrie.

Derek McInnes made four changes to the side that lost to Rangers last weekend.

Scott McKenna and Andy Considine started alongside Curtis Main and Ethan Ross with Mikey Devlin, Zak Vyner, Connor McLennan and Niall McGinn all dropping to the bench.

There wasn’t much to talk about from the Dons in the first half.  Hibs had the first chance with Christian Doidge having his early shot saved by Joe Lewis in the fourth minute.

Stevie Mallan had a long range shot also saved by the Dons captain with the away side proving to have the best of the opening spell of the game.

Aberdeen had their first threat in the 24th minute when Ryan Hedges picked up from a Greig Leigh corner but his header went wide.

Then Curtis Main drilled a shot across the face of goal, but there was nobody in red ready to capitalise in front of goal to take advantage.

In the 37th minute, Lewis Ferguson fired a shot straight at Chris Maxwell who saved his shot, and just shortly after Ryan Hedges fired his shot over from the edge of the penalty area.

Into the second half and it couldn’t have got any worse for the Dons after Ryan Porteous put the visitors ahead in the 48th minute – a corner kick falling to the player which he fired beyond Joe Lewis.

Not long after Curtis Main received a straight red card, which was very harsh on the player for a challenge on Stevie Mallan and appeared to catch his foot with his studs.

Christian Doidge had another chance to put put in a second, but Joe Lewis blocked his shot.

In the 68th minute, Jon Gallagher picked up a Ryan Hedges ball only for him to fire it over from 12 yards out.

Doidge had another one-on-one chance with Joe Lewis in the 74th minute, and rather than passing the ball to Scott Allan he had a shot at goal, but Joe Lewis saved yet again.

Not long after Ryan Hedges fired a shot of the near post, and then in the 86th minute Sam Cosgrove equalised for the Dons after picked up from a corner from Niall McGinn to fire the shot into the net.

From ten men down to nine, late into injury time after Lewis Ferguson was given a straight red card for a challenge on Stevie Mallan.  He’ll now miss the next matches away to Motherwell and at home to Celtic.

Another frustrating afternoon, and whilst we grind out a draw – we should never been in that position in the first place.
