Marley Watkins Signs For Aberdeen On Loan

Bristol City attacker, Marley Watkins has signed on loan until January 2021.

Marley comes in as cover for the strikers currently out injured.

Manager Derek McInnes said on his signing: “I’m really pleased to get a player of Marley’s quality and experience to the Club.

“Clearly, we have not had our troubles to seek in terms of injuries, particularly to our strikers, so it was important to get a player in who can help bolster our options in that area.

“We have a number of important fixtures coming up before the International break and a strong squad will be vital so I must thank the Board for supporting the addition of Marley, despite the financial restrictions currently placed on the Club.

“Having tried hard to get him here previously I’m really pleased to now have the opportunity to work with him and I’m sure he will do well for us.”

Marley told the club website: “A few days ago my agent mentioned it to me – the possibility of coming to Aberdeen.

“As soon as I heard I was very keen to come. It is a massive club and beautiful part of the world.

“I have not been playing regularly, and the manager showed real interest in me.

“So I jumped at the chance.

“I have a massive amount of respect for the gaffer here. He has had a great managerial career so far so it will be great to learn from him. As a player you are always learning and trying improve your game.

“I really am looking forward to it.

“I know about the history of the club and the size of the club. So it was a great option for me.

“I have played against Aberdeen a few times and always remember how tough a game it was. The Aberdeen v Inverness games were always good to play in. I remember scoring at Pittodrie!

“The move is taking place quite early in the window, I could have waited longer, but I just want to play games and be part of the team. There are so much exciting things to challenge for over the next few months including European football.

“I know all about Scottish football. I know the league. I know what it is all about. I love the passion of the fans up here. Some big stadiums and big clubs.

“I know Ryan Hedges from being with him in the Wales squad. He has so much potential and it was great to see him scoring the other night.

“After Inverness, where I had a really enjoyable spell, making history by winning the Scottish Cup, I wanted to go down to England and prove myself. I did well at Barnsley, scoring a good number of goals and getting assists, but have not played as regular recently.

“I very much think of myself as a team player. I just love being part of a team and winning games. There is no better feeling than being part of a team and playing for your teammates, all being in it together. I just want to do as well as possible here for the team.

“I am not thinking about what happens beyond January. I just take it a day at a time. Hopefully I do well here and then we will see what happens.

“I am raring to go. I am ready to play if called upon tomorrow.”

Marley will wear the squad number 50.
