Lowe and McGinn on Target In Dons First Home Win of 2019

Aberdeen secured (finally!) their first home win of 2019, with a comfortable win against Motherwell at Pittodrie.

One change from the team that faced Hearts at the weekend.  Dean Campbell got his first senior start at Pittodrie at the expense of Greg Stewart who dropped to the bench.

And it only took four minutes into the game for the Dons to take the lead, after Max Lowe, out on the left, attempted a cross, but the ball went beyond Mark Gillespie in the Well goal and went in at the back post.  Max trying his best to impress his club manager, Frank Lampard who was in the stand at Pittodrie.

Seven minutes later, Lewis Ferguson drove from midfield to the edge of the area – and his left footed shot forced a block from Gillespie.

Lowe was eager, and it showed in the 16th minute, after beating Allan Campbell to a loose ball, but his close range shot was blocked by Tom Aldred.

It was a dominant Dons performance, but Motherwell started to fight their way back and on 37 minutes an all too familiar equaliser made it all square.  A Richard Tait pass sent Jake Hastie through, round Lewis and hit the ball into the net.

After the break, Aberdeen continued to have chances with Cosgrove and McLennan both having chances in the early stages of the match.

With 65 minutes on the clock, there was a collision between Cosgrove, Gillespie and Charles Dunne in the Well goalmouth.  Sam Cosgrove came out of it unscathed but Gillespie needed to be stretchered off and was replaced by Rohan Ferguson.

It didn’t take long after the restart for Niall McGinn to fire home past Ferguson making it 2-1, and that wasn’t to be the end of his scoring delights, well into injury time Niall put in his second of the night in the 97th minute to make it 3-1 putting the Dons level on points with Kilmarnock.+
