Hamilton v Aberdeen

Lewis Ferguson On Target As Dons Win Against Hamilton

Midweek under the lights at Hamilton and an under pressure Derek McInnes was looking for a response from his men following the loss against Celtic on Sunday.

He made three changes to the starting line-up.

Lewis Ferguson returned from a two game suspension and Craig Bryson was back in the starting line-up.  Ryan Hedges also made a comeback to the starting line-up.

Mikey Devlin, Jon Gallagher and Connor McLennan were all dropped to the bench.

Hamilton made the opening gambit in the fifth minute when Mickel Miller put a shot wide from 12 yards out.

Five minutes later Sam Cosgrove nearly came close from a Niall McGinn cross but he couldn’t put the ball beyond Owain Fon Williams.

The opening and only goal of the match came in the 14th minute after Ryan Hedges played a free kick to Lewis Ferguson who then shot a left footed drive into the roof of the Hamilton net.  A fantastic finish.

The Dons continued to put on the pressure, Sam Cosgrove coming close in the 28th and 39th minute.

Dean Campbell came on at half time to replace Craig Bryson, a precautionary move following his lengthy injury spell.

The second half was more of a pedestrian affair and didn’t have the spark of the first half.

Both Lewis Ferguson and Niall McGinn had a couple of shots but without success.

Sam Cosgrove was defeated by the woodwork in the 82nd minute, as he picked up a Logan cross by his header hit the base of the post.

In the end, that elusive second goal never came, but three points away from home in the bag, pushes us back up to fourth in the Scottish Premiership and provides a bit of breathing space for the manager ahead of the weekend match against Kilmarnock.
