Festive Public Transport
We thought we’d give you some details on the festive buses and trains running in region over the Christmas and New Year period.
Some services will finish early or will be operating on a reduced timetable between Christmas and New Year.
Aberdeen have two games over the festive period:
- Boxing Day – Aberdeen v Livingston – kick-off 3pm
- Sunday 29 December – Hearts v Aberdeen – kick off 2pm

Christmas Eve – Tuesday 24 December 2019
From/to Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness
The last trains will operate at:
- 1938 Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen
- 1945 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street
- 2040 Glasgow Queen Street to Dundee
- 1806 Glasgow Queen Street to Inverness
- 1727 Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street (2002 connection at Perth for Edinburgh)

The last trains will operate at:

Christmas Day
There are no rail services on Christmas Day.
Boxing Day
There are no rail services in the North and North East of Scotland on Boxing Day, or to/from Glasgow and Edinburgh to/from the North and North East of Scotland.
Plan ahead if you intend to travel to Aberdeen for the match against Livingston at Pittodrie.
Friday 27 and Saturday 28 December 2019
Network Rail engineering works at Haymarket mean services on several routes to and from the Edinburgh area will operate on a reduced timetable with services starting and terminating before they reach Edinburgh. Very limited replacement transport will be in place.
If you’re planning to travel to the Edinburgh area on these dates. please consider making alternative travel arrangements, particularly on Saturday 28 December 2019.
From/to Edinburgh and Aberdeen
Trains will start and terminate at Haymarket. A very limited replacement bus service will run between Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley.
First trains are:
- 0534 Haymarket to Aberdeen
- 0548 Aberdeen to Haymarket
- 0831 Edinburgh to Aberdeen service starts at Inverkeithing at 0900
From/to Edinburgh and Inverness
First trains are:
- 0834 Haymarket to Inverness
- 0456 Inverness to Haymarket
- 0655 departure from Perth terminates at Inverkeithing
Sunday 29 December 2019
Aberdeen will be playing Hearts at Tynecastle today.
Network Rail engineering works at Haymarket mean services on several routes to and from the Edinburgh area will operate on a reduced timetable with services starting and terminating before they reach Edinburgh until around 10am. A very limited bus service will be in operation.
Services to/from Edinburgh Inverness and Aberdeen will run as normal except:
- 0724 Dundee to Edinburgh (terminates at Dalmeny)
- 0917 Edinburgh to Aberdeen (starts at Dalgety Bay at 0948)
- 0929 Edinburgh to Inverness (starts at Perth at 1053)
Monday 30 December 2019
Normal services will be in operation.
Hogmanay
Services will run as normal until around 8pm, when services will begin to wind down.
From/to Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness
