Dean Campbell Extends Dons Contract Till 2023

Aberdeen midfielder Dean Campbell wants to “kick on” and earn more game time after signing a three-and-a-half-year extended contract until 2023.

The 18-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Pittodrie club, scoring once.

He was called up to the Scotland Under 21 squad for the first time last month for the European Championship qualifier against Greece.

“I am living the dream – it was always my ambition to play for Aberdeen growing up,” he said.

“I didn’t really think anything would come about at the moment. I still had a couple of years left on my original deal but the gaffer just pulled me aside and said he would like to reward me for my efforts.

“It is really good for myself at the moment, and hopefully I can just continue to build more memories in the years that I am here.”

A product of the club’s academy, Campbell became Aberdeen’s youngest player in May 2017, coming on as a substitute against Celtic aged 16 years one month, having sat an English exam at school earlier in the day.

Manager Derek McInnes says the teenager is “on the right path” and that he will continue to improve.

“He is a lovely technician of the ball, he is confident in possession and when you see him in his own age group he clearly stands out,” he said.

“What is important is that he starts to use his size more than he currently does, there is more good about Dean than not and we are delighted he has committee to the next part of his career with us.”
