Dismal Dons Denied At Pittodrie

The Dons suffered a humiliating defeat at Pittodrie this evening against league strugglers Hamilton.

It was truly awful display from the Dons who are finding it difficult to get their home form together, earning two points from a possible 15.

It is difficult to sum up the display, but from the reaction on Twitter, the Red Army are far from happy.

Aberdeen made two changes to the side from the weekend match against St Johnstone.  Mikey Devlin was dropped to the bench with Scott McKenna partnering Andy Considine at centre-back.

Niall McGinn was back in the starting XI, replacing the injured Gary Mackay-Steven following the challenge by Richard Foster at the weekend.

Our new signing, Greg Halford was on the bench.

Our injury curse continued into this game, with Max Lowe going off midway through the first half after getting a knock, replaced by Mikey Devlin.

Quickly after, Joe Lewis made a cracking save in the 19th minute when Mickel Miller cut inside Scott McKenna to open up a clear shooting chance.

The Dons were denied a goal in the 28th minute when Niall McGinn hit a low ball into the box that met Greg Stewart with his header hitting the far post.

Ten minutes later, it was the visitors who were in front, after a long ball over the top of defence found George Oakley who hit a right footed shot from a tight angle that crashed off the underside of the bar and into goal.

Sam Cosgrove nearly came close with an equaliser shortly afterwards but it wasn’t to be with the shot flying over goal.

Half-time was upon us and it was clear that there was discontent in the camp as boos were clearly heard around the ground.

The metalwork got in the way again early in the second-half after Cosgrove hit a cross from McGinn, the shot hitting the base of the rear post.

Then it was a chance for Graeme Shinnie, after a ball from Greg Stewart split the Hamilton defence, the captain shot the effort over goal.

Dom Ball was next up to hit the metalwork after his powerful strike from the edge of the box cracked the centre bar and went over goal.

We went 2-0 behind after our defence was left wide open after a Lenny Sowah ball into the box was picked up by Mickel Miller, he had plenty of space to get a low finish from 15 yards out.

It was a truly awful night for the Red Army in an unacceptable home performance, we need to get our home act together el-pronto.  Food for thought if we are to get anything out of our Cup game on Sunday.
