Tickets now on sale for Gothenburg Greats Weekend of Celebrations
With the 40th anniversary of the European Cup Winners’ Cup success fast approaching, the club has confirmed ticket details for key events across the weekend of celebrations at Pittodrie.
As previously announced, the highlight of the weekend will be a special event at Pittodrie on Friday, 12 May, at which the club and the Gothenburg Greats will be presented with the Freedom of the City by Aberdeen City Council.
This ticketed event, which will start at 12 noon in the Richard Donald Stand, will feature player interviews and historic footage from the triumph in Gothenburg before the players and club receive the top civic honour from the Lord Provost of Aberdeen.
All profits from this special event will be donated to the Gothenburg Greats Legacy Fund.
Tickets will go on sale to supporters from Monday 20th March and full information can be found here.
Commenting on the celebrations, Aberdeen City Council Lord Provost David Cameron said: “The Aberdeen FC Team who have become known as “the Gothenburg Greats” put Aberdeen well and truly on the map by beating Real Madrid to lift the European Cup Winners Cup in Gothenburg in May 1983.
“The core of this team provided Aberdeen with a fantastically successful 4 or 5 seasons with 1983 being the icing on the cake and I can think of no better way to acknowledge their success than to confer on them the Freedom of the City of Aberdeen while, at the same time, acknowledging Aberdeen Football Club’s role is facilitating these achievements.”
The 40th anniversary festivities will culminate with a home league match on either Saturday 13 May or Sunday 14 May at which the Gothenburg Greats will be welcomed back to Pittodrie as guests of honour.
The SPFL has confirmed the Club will have a home fixture that weekend, with timings and opposition set to be confirmed later this season once the post-split fixtures are confirmed in late April.
To help maximise attendance for the match a special ‘1983’ limited time ticket offer will be available for the Richard Donald Stand Upper, meaning fans can purchase adult tickets for £19, Youth & Over 75 tickets for £8 and just £3 for Under 18 tickets.
The ticket offer will remain in place until Friday 31st March, so buy now to avoid missing out!
Tickets for all other areas of the ground will not go on sale until the end of April, once the match opponent & date/time have been confirmed. Tickets purchased for both the special event and the match will not be posted out or available to collect until 1st May 2023.
