SFA Punishment For Aberdeen 8 Revealed

The SFA has punished the eight Aberdeen players who visited an Aberdeen pub following the Rangers match at the start of August, breaching the COVID-19 rules of the club and the Association.

Jonny Hayes, Michael Devlin, Scott McKenna, Matty Kennedy, Sam Cosgrove, Dylan McGeouch, Craig Bryson andBruce Anderson learned of their punishment this evening.

The players have had a suspended three match ban applied until 28 February 2021 and this will take effect only in the event that the player is found in breach of Disciplinary Rules 24 and/or 71 during that time period.

Celtic’s Boli Bolingoli also faced punishment for visitng Spain without the knowledge of his club and not folllowing quarantine rules on his return.

He will face a five game suspension, with a three match suspension applied immediately and two suspended until 28 February 2021.

The charges brought against the players were:

  • Disciplinary Rule 24 – A recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall be subject to and shall comply with the Articles, the Laws of the Game and the rules, procedures and regulations, bye-laws and Decisions of the Scottish FA.
  • Disciplinary Rule 71 – No recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official, or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall bring the game into disrepute.

Aberdeen and Celtic will now face a seperate charge by the SPFL.
