ScotRail Launch New Winter Timetable Improvements

From 9 December 2018, ScotRail will introduce changes to its timetables to deliver faster journeys, more seats and more services.

Aberdeen will see new hourly Aberdeen to Montrose services, which will provide an hourly service to/from Laurencekirk, Stonehaven and Portlethen and nine new additional services will launch between Inverness and Elgin, giving close to an hourly all-day service to/from Nairn, Forres and Elgin.

The new Aberdeen – Montrose service will see daily services increase:

  • at Montrose from 52 to 91;
  • at Laurencekirk from 24 to 40;
  • at Stonehaven from 50 to 71;
  • at Portlethen from 20 to 41

There will be more than 5,000 additional seats each day through this service.

ScotRail also intend to introduce the first phase of the new Aberdeen Crossrail service which will run to Inverurie by the end of 2019.

Daily services at Nairn, Forres and Elgin will increase from 25 to 34 introducing 1,500 additional seats each day and providing 60% more capacity on the route.

Rail journey times between Inverness and Elgin will be about 40 minutes.

Across the central belt new half hourly Edinburgh to Glasgow services (via Cumbernauld and Falkirk Grahamston) using brand new trains will be introduced reducing journey time from 51 minutes to 47 minutes.

There will also be extended Edinburgh to Arbroath services, providing a near hourly local service for Broughty Ferry, Monifieth and Carnoustie.
