New BBC Scotland TV Channel Launch Date

The new BBC Scotland TV channel looks to be launching on Sunday 24 February 2019.

The launch date was revealed in an update to the BBC website.

The BBC Scotland channel will feature a core schedule of programmes between 7pm and midnight, with an hour of news at 9pm on weeknights, featuring reports from Scotland, the UK and the world.

Before 7pm, BBC Scotland will feature programmes that were previously shown on BBC Two Scotland that are moving across to the new channel, this will likely include the Sportscene SPFL highlights show and the Saturday afternoon results show.

The BBC Two Scotland channel will close when the new channel launches and BBC Two will show the same schedule at BBC Two in England.

Due to capacity constraints on Freeview HD, CBBC HD in Scotland will adopt new broadcast hours, meaning the channel will close at 7pm instead of 9pm.  CBBC programming will continue on Freeview in Scotland in standard definition (SD) only until 9pm.

BBC Scotland HD will be available on Freeview in Scotland from 7pm to midnight only, the standard definition channel will be available for between midday and midnight.

The full CBBC HD and BBC Scotland HD schedule will be available on other platforms like Sky and Virgin Media within Scotland.

Beyond Scotland, BBC Scotland HD and SD will be carried on satellite and the BBC iPlayer.

The channel number for the new channel is still to be confirmed.
