Lewis Ferguson Nominated For Young Player of the Year

Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson has been nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

The 19 year old has secured his place in the first team this season has made 41 appearances and scored seven goals including a cracker of an overhead kick in the Europa League against Burnley at Turf Moor last summer.

The full list of nominees are:

  • Lewis Ferguson (Aberdeen)
  • David Turnbull (Motherwell)
  • Jake Hastie (Motherwell)
  • Ryan Kent (The Rangers)

Lewis told the club website: “It’s special.

“I’m delighted to be nominated and it shows all the hard work that I’ve been putting in this season, so it’s good to see the other players and professionals that I’ve been playing against have noticed that.

“There’s a few boys in there this year that deserve to win it. David Turnbull at Motherwell has come into that side and he’s their best player and their key man. He’s still the same age as me and I’m good friends with David so it’s good to see that.

“I’m very driven and that’s one thing I can say about myself. I knew when I came up here I was determined to get myself into the starting eleven and show the staff and the other players that I was capable of doing that.

“The next challenge for me is to kick on that extra step and take it to another level next season as well as stay in the team and keep performing.

“I’ve had a few good goals and ones I’ll never forget. I’ve still not changed my top three. My favourite is the Burnley goal just because of the type of goal that it was. My second favourite is the one at Hampden because it was such a special occasion for the club and to put the team in a final was massive. For the third I’ll go for the other overhead kick against Livingston, which was last minute and got us the three points. My free kick against Kilmarnock would have to be fourth then!

“There’s still lots of things I’ve got to work on. I’m not perfect and I’m still young and I’m still learning the game and I think there’s so much for me to work on to make myself a better player. Coming into the new season I’ll be working as hard as I can to get quicker and stronger and get better technically.”
