Jim Goodwin Sacked

Jim Goodwin has been sacked following our humiliating 6-0 loss against Hibs at Easter Road today.

The statement from club said: “Following an unacceptable run of results since the World Cup break, the Club confirms it has parted company with Jim Goodwin and first team assistant manager Lee Sharp with immediate effect.”

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, Chairman, Dave Cormack said:

“I’m almost lost for words. I saw our fans there again today, 1700 of them supporting the team, singing the whole game. I’ve been a fan my whole life and, like them, I’m embarrassed, shocked and humiliated by the results.

“Jim is a good man, has given it everything here. I met him right after the game and he came up and gave me a hug and simply said, ‘I know, Dave, it’s just not good enough’.

“So we part company for obvious reasons. Since coming back from the World Cup our away form has been abysmal, our form at home has been pretty decent. I think some of the players also need to take responsibility.

“As a Dons fan, I’m 64 now, been going there for close to 60 years, I take responsibility. I am the chairman of the club and I have overseen on the football side the changes we have made.

“It’s no consolation for fans to hear how well thing are going off the field, commercially, with fan engagement or our youth academies. They deserve better than that.

“I am absolutely determined to get this right and we will double down with the board. Our vision and our strategy across the club, right through to moving stadium, is the right strategy.

“The most critical thing in a business is making sure you have the right people in place to execute on all aspects. Unfortunately since we came back from the World Cup it has just been really, really challenging.

“Like the fans, I felt quite humiliated today and I’m sorry – they were brilliant today. I am quite emotional about the club. It means everything to me. It’s our home city. I have been gone for a long time. I am rightly taking the pelters. I deserve it but I am determined to get it right.”

It has been a calamitous week at Aberdeen which could have been avoided if the Board were decisive enough to take the decision following the Scottish Cup defeat against Darvel on Monday.

Top to bottom, the full football operation of the club needs urgently reviewed.
