Hancock and Ngwenya go out on loan

Mason Hancock and Kieran Ngwenya have both gone out on loan to Arbroath and Raith Rovers respectively.

This is not the first time Mason has been linked with Arbroath, after his initial loan move having been cancelled at the end of June following an injury to Jack Mackenzie in the friendly against Buckie.

Mason, who featured for the first team in the successful Scottish League Cup  group stage matches, helping the side keep four clean sheets, signed a new one-year contract extension with the Club in January 2022.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell with Stirling Albion during the 2021/22 campaign, making 14 appearances for the cinch league Two side.

Pathways Manager, Neil Simpson said: “Mason has shown during his performances in the recent Premier Sports Cup matches that he has great potential.

“This loan period at Arbroath will provide playing opportunities and help him further develop his game.

“These loan experiences are designed to build players who will be ready to compete in our first team and provide a pathway to reaching their potential. I’m sure Mason will maximise this time with Arbroath and return to Aberdeen a more rounded player and will be ready to challenge for a regular first team place.”

Meanwhile, Kieran Ngwenya heads to Starks Park on a season long loan.

The 19-year-old from Edinburgh made his Aberdeen debut in a league win over Ross County in December 2020 and has since made one more appearance for the first team. He was also involved in a number of the pre-season games this year.

In March 2021, Ngwenya moved on loan to Cove Rangers in Scottish League One, making seven appearances before the left-back made his international debut for Malawi in a friendly against Tanzania in June 2021. Then last season he helped Kelty Hearts win Scottish League Two title, making 27 appearances for the Fife club.

Neil Simpson said: “Kieran is technically a very good footballer and has impressed with his application during the pre-season campaign. He is a player who is highly regarded at the Club.

“Having experienced the demands of league football last season with Kelty, we felt it was in his best interests to get back out on loan again to gain some further valuable game time, in a competitive league, whilst also continuing to train with the first team here.”
