GMS Penalty Secures Win For Dons at Dens

A Gary Mackay-Steven penalty was the difference between the sides at Dens Park to give Aberdeen all three points against Dundee and give the Dons their first league win of the season.

Aberdeen made one change form the side that started against The Rangers last weekend.  Stevie May stepped in to replace the injured Scott McKenna.

Kharl Madianga had the first attempt on goal, after his attempt from 25 yards flew over the crossbar.

Mackay-Steven caused problems down the right flank for most of the game, and setup May, but his low drive was blocked by Nathan Ralph.

Aberdeen became more comfortable as they got into the came, with Andrew Considine nodding wide from a Niall McGinn cross.

May was unlucky not to score two minutes before the break in a packed penalty area, but Hamilton came to the rescue for Dundee.

Following the interval Dundee made an immediate change at half-time with Adil Nabi making his debut for Dundee in place of the injured Lewis Spence.

And it was Dundee who should have scored within two minutes of the second half starting.  Josh Meekings somehow failed to convert from an Elton Ngwatala corner.

The Dons made their first change in the 56th minute with Bruce Anderson coming on for Sam Cosgrove.

The goal eventually came for the Dons, after Bobby Madden pointed to the spot after Dundee defender Genseric Kusunga was penalised for handball and Gary Mackay-Steven calmly slotted the ball into the net as he sent Dundee goalie, Hamilton the wrong way.

McGinn, went close to a second with a curling free kick that was inches too high towards the end of the match but it wasn’t to be.

It wasn’t a pretty affair, but Derek McInnes will be happy with the win given the injuries that have blighted the team of late.
