Europa League Heartache For Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s UEFA Europa League adventure this season is over after a heard fought battle against Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Dons lost 3-1 on the night, 4-2 on aggregate to miss out on a third qualifying round clash with İstanbul Başakşehir FK.

Aberdeen put in a professional disciplined performance, and supported by a large travelling Red Army who backed the team from start to finish.

The sides went into the game tied 1-1, after drawing in the first leg at Pittodrie, with Burnley at advantage with the away goal.

Burnley grabbed an early lead through Chris Wood, before Lewis Ferguson made it level with the goal of the game, with a magnificent over-head kick.

The scoreline remained the same up until 90 minutes but Burnley grabbed the lead in the 101st minute when Charlie Taylor crossed from the left and Jack Cork drove the header home from 10 yards.

In a final blow, Scott McKenna gave away a penalty for hand ball in the 114th minute, with Barnes converting the spot kick to ultimately give Burnley the win.

It was a disciplined performance from the Dons, who need to kick-on for the upcoming Scottish Premiership and cup campaigns.
