Cove Rangers Friendly Match Abandoned

Our pre-season friendly match against Cove Rangers at their new Balmoral Stadium was abandoned early in the second-half this afternoon following a serious head injury to Cove’s midfielder Jordon Brown following a collision with Andrew Considine.

An ambulance was called for to take him to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and he was stretchered from the field in a neck brace after being given oxygen during treatment.

Medical staff from both teams came to the immediate treatment of Brown.

Jordan was in the former youth setup at Aberdeen and was released from the Dons at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Earlier in the match Shay Logan put the Don’s ahead in the 21st minute, followed by a penalty by former Don, Mitch Megginson to make it level.  Just before the end of the first half, Chris Forrester was on target for Aberdeen to take the lead into the break.

The match was abandoned on the 57th minute, following the incident.

Cove Rangers released a statement this evening: “As has been reported by the media today, Cove Rangers opening game at Balmoral Stadium against Aberdeen FC was overshadowed by a serious looking injury to Cove Rangers player, Jordon Brown.

Jordon suffered a head injury as a result of an accidental clash of heads with Aberdeen FC player, Andrew Considine, in the 50th minute of today’s game. The club would like to report that Jordon has been assessed by the medical team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, his scans are all clear and he will be discharged this evening and monitored over a further 48-hour period.

We’d like to thank the medical staff from both Cove and Aberdeen FC, police and ambulance crew who attended to Jordon in a speedy manner. This has undoubtedly led to the best possible outcome.
