Goodwin Clearout Continues – Devlin and JET to depart

After the news that Andy Considine will be leaving the club this summer, a further two players will be departing Pittodrie shortly.

Mikey Devlin is to leave when his contract expires this summer after an injury plagued time at Aberdeen.

Devlin has been out of action since our 1-1 draw with St Mirren on 5 December 2020, and in March 2020 was the last time he featured in two consecutive games.

Commenting on Mikey’s departure, Jim Goodwin said: ” It has been a very difficult time for Mikey, so we’re giving him a little bit of time with his family just to get his head right.

“But I’ve had that conversation with Mikey, with regards to next season, and Mikey will be moving on from Aberdeen in the summer.

“We have had a very honest conversation. I’ve known Mikey a long time, he’s a great kid who unfortunately probably didn’t fulfil his potential due to recurring injuries, which is a great shame for him.”

Mikey said: “I’d like to thank the manager, staff and chairman for the opportunity to play for a club like Aberdeen.

“Despite the challenges I have faced, I have loved my time here and am leaving with some brilliant memories.

“I would also like to express my thanks to the fans for their backing and continued support since I joined Aberdeen in 2018, in particular over the last 18 months, which have been a very difficult period for me.

“I wish everyone associated with Aberdeen every success in the future.”

Meanwhile, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is set to have his contract cut short.

According to reports, JET’s contracted is expected to be terminated in the next few days.

He has only scored once in 23 appearances for the club, in the 2-1 League Cup defeat against Raith Rovers.

In an interview last month Jim Goodwin said “He is not fit enough to play the type of football that I want us to play.

“I have been very honest with him on that.  He knows what he has to do.  He is working hard behind the scenes, he is doing extra with the sports science teams and that’s all we can ask of him at the moment.”

JET’s last game for the Dons was in our 1-0 loss against Hibs in December.
